The Best Way to Keep Your Roof Clean

Everyone loves the idea of having a maintenance-free roof, and many roofing manufacturers aim to meet that need by offering products that are as low-maintenance as possible. However, regardless of the type of roof you have, the fact of the matter is that you will inevitably have to perform some routine upkeep on your roof if you want it to continue to look and function at its best for as long as possible. What does it take to keep a roof in tip top shape? Here are some tips for the best way to keep your roof clean:
Apply a roof cleaner. You may purchase roof cleaner from any home improvement store. It is likely that you may have to mix it with water before applying it. Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions, mixing in an insecticide sprayer or power washer. If you can, climb up onto your roof so that you can be sure to give it a thorough spray. If you do decide to use a power washer, be sure to use it on an extremely low pressure setting, so as not to damage your roofing material. Allow the cleaner to sit on your roof for as long as the manufacturer suggests- usually about 25 minutes.
Rinse the roof cleaner. After you have allowed the roof cleaner to soak for the specified amount of time, rinse the cleaner off using a garden hose or a power washer set to a very low pressure. If there is any mildew or stains left, blast these away using the force of the water, or scrub if necessary.
Clean your gutters. It is likely that there will be a good deal of waste in your gutters after a thorough roof cleaning. Prevent the gutter drains from clogging by removing large debris by hand, then use your garden hose to flush out the remainder of the waste.
Adhere to a regular cleaning schedule. You don’t have to clean your roof all too often, but a cleaning every one to three years is a good idea, if you want to keep your roof looking its best. Also, keep in mind that the better you care for your roof, the more likely you are to see it to its fullest possible life span.
There is a lot to think about when it comes to caring for your roof. Experienced professionals can advise you on the best ways to maintain your roof. To put your roofing project into the hands of a contractor you can trust, contact Legacy Roofing. We can be reached by phone, at 720-541-5000, or by email:[email protected]

Garage flat roof

low slope roof systemWhether you have an old garage flat roof or if you construct a new one you should take into consideration the quality and the type of roof that you choose for your garage. You might encounter problems with a home inspector if you don’t have an adequate roof for your garage. He may cite your garage. And of course you want to make sure you have a stable and reliable roof that can face a massive rainfall.
A flat roof with sagged joists allows rainwater to pool at the center, rather than draining toward the roof edges. This is a common problem and it affects nearly all the so-called flat roofs. Having an insufficient roof slope promotes standing pools of rainwater and this increases the likelihood of leakage as the roof becomes older.
Roof drains should be installed at each low point of the roof. Since the roof joists have sagged it seems that they were not designed to support accumulated water. Therefore if you can add drains at the lower points of the roof it could prolong the life of your roof.

Thank You for understanding Garage Flat Roof.

Tornadoes in Castle Pines

Often being the largest opening on most homes, the garage door is usually the most vulnerable to failure under high wind pressure such as hurricanes, tornadoes and storms in general. The pressure of the wind can destroy the garage doors during a storm that allows water and wind to enter the house. This can cause significant damage to furniture, electronic equipment, the contents in general as well as the house’s structure. The garage door is often overlooked when strengthening the structure against high winds.
Massive building failures and strong winds have convinced storm-prone communities that residents must be prepared to employ active or passive reinforcement systems for their garage doors. An active system is that specific type of reinforcement that must be installed before a high-wind event while passive systems are built into the product and don’t need any activation from the owner. For the home owner in hurricane-prone areas there are only two real options: either a new garage door with a built in passive reinforcement system or a garage door reinforcement kit.
The option of totally replacing the garage door is usually an expensive procedure so a garage door reinforcement kit would be a good choice if your budget for remodeling your garage is low. Although is rather expensive, a new garage door offers a more secure and safe option in front of a high wind.
If you’d rather choose the cheapest option, that is to reinforce your garage door you can protect your home in one of the following ways: first of all install pressure or impact resistant devices, such as shutters, panels, accordion fold shutters on the garage doors or install pressure/impact resistant garage doors that do not require shutters. If your existing door is impact resistant but it is not wind pressure rated, install an approved garage door bracing system to increase the wind pressure resistance. A pressure/impact resistant rating ensures that the device meets the wind pressure and debris impact requirements of the Southern Building Code Congress International standards or the July 1988 wind pressure and debris impact requirements of the American Society of Civil Engineers adopted in September 1994.
When adding a garage door bracing first ensure that there is enough and relevant documentation that the product has been tested at a certified testing laboratory. The product should be designed to withstand both positive and negative wind pressure. You should contact a local garage door supplier of approved garage door bracing systems to assist you in the selection of the necessary system for your needs.

What is Engineered Hardwood?

What is Engineered Hardwood?

Made from real wood, engineered hardwood can be used for a range of home improvements and commercial uses, including a variety of types of flooring. It can be a lot more affordable than normal hardwood, but the quality can vary depending what type you use.

Tailor made wood

Essentially, engineered hardwood is a way to use odds and ends of wood, chippings, scraps, cut-offs and leftovers or pieces of wood that are mis-shaped and unsuitable for other purposes. The method of constructing engineered hardwood gives the material great stability, which is ideal for floating floors or for directly placing onto timber sub floors. Because of this, many DIY enthusiasts choose this as a preferred option for flooring.
Each type of engineered flooring wood comes in different shades and finishes. For example, oak wide plank comes in Sorrento rustic and numerous other shades and patterns. Beech engineered flooring comes in beech finishes and patterns and maple engineered flooring also comes in a choice of finishes. Of course with all the engineered flooring products, the look varies between lacquered and oiled wood finishes. There are also wood protection finishes such as staining.
Because engineered wood is man made, it can be designed for a range of conditions and uses. With the use of engineered wood for floors, several woodpiles are glued together. Ranging from 3 to 7 inches wide and in a choice of hardwood species, some types of engineered hardwood?come with a thin wear layer for added protection. Other brands of engineered hardwood floor can be sanded. The life span of engineered hardwood floors can be up to 100 years.
Engineered hardwood can be manufactured in two ways. The top surface wear layer can be sliced or sawn from the log, giving an engineered hardwood floor that has a more authentic wood look and graining. Engineered hardwood floors can also be rotary cut, with the hardwood wear layer peeled off the log using lathes. This way of making engineered hardwood floors can show much wilder graining.
